Antique 18th Century Continental Silk Fragment in Garnet with Gold Tinsel

Continental silk fragment dating to the 18th century. Probably Italian, possibly French. In a rich saturated garnet or cherry colored silk satin with supplementary gold tinsel weft beautiful simple floral design elements in glittering repeat. Hand sewn backing in a blue silk, this probably sewn on in the 19th century. Gold silk trim on four sides. Made up of two narrow panels that have been sewn together to make a single panel.

Each panel measures 21″, total width 42″ by 41″. Weighs 1.5 lbs.
