Antique (c. 1890) Embroidered Net Wedding Gown
Lovely antique lace applique on net overlay wedding gown, dating to the late 19th century. Small dress maker's label on the petersham, labelled “G. C. Clark.” Front closing bodice with hooks and eye in stayed lining, elegant bell shape overlay sleeves w/chiffon under-sleeves and snug lace trimmed cuffs. Satin waist sash and trimmings some that have been hand embroidered. Hook and eye back closing skirt, fully lined in silk taffeta with a layer of fine white tissue chiffon between the lining and the net/lace exterior. Lovely tiered layers of the applique lace at base of skirt with train at back. The color of the exterior net and lace is an antique cream. The exterior lace and chiffon in excellent uncleaned as found condition, the silk lining on both the bodice and skirt are just starting to split and will need a reline.
The chest measures 34″, the waist 24″, front length 18″, back length 15″, sleeves 21″. Skirt waist 24″, length in front 39″, with train 54″.
